Friday September 13:  Marketing for Box Office success – Phil Oneile

Phil Oneile is the Director of Marketing for Roadshow Films, the film distribution arm of Village Roadshow and has worked in the film industry for over 15 years, 12 of them as the head of marketing for theatrical releases.

Phil has developed campaigns for over 500 films including the Harry Potter, Lord of The Rings and The Matrix franchises as well as Sex and the City 1 & 2, The Dark Knight trilogy, Hunger Games and many more.

Aside from the big blockbusters, Phil has also developed marketing campaigns for a significant number of award-winning arthouse films and highly successful Australian films including Red Dog, Mao’s Last Dancer, Crackerjack, Bran Nue Dae, Beautiful Kate, Wolf Creek and Happy Feet.

It’s hard to think of anyone better placed in Australia to discuss the many considerations that go into devising a theatrical marketing campaign. Phil will also offer insights into that ephemeral thing called ‘target audience‘ and discuss his approach with reference to forthcoming films including Wolf Creek 2.
