Friday August 31: Nigel Odell – Producing with Passion
Producer Nigel Odell has enjoyed many and varied roles in both the UK and Australian film industries. He
started off in the UK as a Marketing Consultant then moved into producing low budget features. He worked as a
Script Consultant to the European Script Fund in London before moving to Australia in 1997 where he cofounded
Instinct Entertainment. As Head of Production and Distribution at Instinct he produced five feature films
including Till Human Voices Wake Us starring Helena Bonham Carter and Strange Bedfellows which saw Paul
Hogan and Michael Caton team up as unlikely lovers.
He was Head of Production & Acquisitions with the international sales /production company Archlight and then
went on to teach producing at both Swinburne University and VCA. He is currently in post-production on Cliffy an
ABC telemovie about sporting hero Cliff Young, the potato farmer turned marathon runner.
Nigel will discuss how he has survived this fickle industry, turning his passion of film into an ongoing viable
business.
