Friday Oct 12: Jan Chapman – Creative Producer Extraordinaire
Few Australian producers can claim that their films have been honoured with both Academy and Cannes Palme
d’Or awards. But then again, producers of the calibre of Jan Chapman are few and far between. Her fine
judgment, unwavering tenacity and impeccable grace have been key to producing some of Australia’s most
critically and commercially successful films including The Piano, Bright Star, Lantana and Love Serenade to
name a few. Jan has always supported and nurtured the careers of distinctly talented first time feature
filmmakers, starting with Jane Campion and continuing with the likes of Shirley Barrett, Cate Shortland and Leon
Ford.
Jan will discuss the role of a producer; her approach to nurturing new talent and her long and successful
friendship and partnership with much admired director Jane Campion.
