Friday June 14: Major Australian Director – Fred Schepisi
Multi-award winning Fred Schepisi (Plenty, Roxanne, The Russia House, Six Degrees of Separation, Empire Falls, The Eye of the Storm) is one of the very few Australian directors that can be said to have carved a significant international reputation. And on the home front, through landmark projects such as Evil Angels and The Chant of Jimmy Blacksmith, he has also helped us to identify some basic truths about ourselves. Fred Schepisi is a rare creative force who is perceptive, formidable, diverse and eloquent in equal measure.
Fred’s projects have involved high caliber actors including Meryl Streep, Helen Mirren, Steve Martin, Paul Newman, Donald Sutherland, Sean Connery and Michael Caine. That’s been matched on the writing front with collaborators David Hare and Tom Stoppard.
Currently in post-production on his latest feature film Words and Pictures starring Juliette Binoche and Clive Owen, Fred will provide invaluable insights into his process and thoughts on when a director starts directing.
