September 20: The nuts & bolts of cinema exhibition in Australia with Ross Entwistle
Filmmakers don’t often get an operational perspective on the exhibition side of the film industry, so this is one of those rare moments: a session with an exhibitor who is widely recognised as one of the best in the business.
Ross Entwistle has been exhibiting and distributing films for more than 25 years, with experience in more than 18 international territories as an exhibitor, and over 150 films as a theatrical distributor. He is a director of Limelight Cinemas, an independent multiplex operator he established in 2009, and is also a board member of Screen Australia.
He was previously managing director of Greater Union, the largest cinema operator in Australia and managing director of Sony Pictures Releasing (Australia), and during the 1990s, held senior executive positions with Village Roadshow. In 2012, Ross was honoured by the Independent Cinema Association of Australia with the Mark Sarfaty Award for outstanding contribution to Independent Cinemas.
Ross has supported and observed the theatrical releases of countless Australian films and will talk candidly about the nuts and bolts of cinema exhibition as he reflects on future trends at a time when video on demand looms large.
