Friday March 16: TONY AYRES – Multi-talented Writer/Director/Producer
Tony Ayres of Matchbox Pictures is a multi-talented writer/director/producer.
Tony was the show runner and episode director of the award winning and
critically acclaimed TV adaption, The Slap and his 2007 feature film The
Home Song Stories, premiered at Berlin winning 23 Australian & International
awards including 8 AFIs. The following year he directed the telemovie Saved
for which Claudia Karvan won the Logie for Best Actress. More recently he
has become a prolific producer, co-producing the feature film, Lou, the
comedy series Bogan Pride as well as the benchmark arts documentary
series Anatomy. Matchbox Pictures recently sold a majority stake in its
business to US broadcast company NBC Universal. Tony will discuss his
pivotal role as the show runner on The Slap, how becoming a producer
influences his work as a writer/director and the benefits and challenges of corunning
a highly successful production company.
